Why do people use different words for the color purple?

Sometimes people say violeta instead of púrpura. Why is that? :(

Usually colors are related to plants, like Violet and lily (violeta y lila). We also use 'morado' which comes from 'mora' (mulberry), 'vino' (wine) and last, but not least; púrpura, which is your every-day purple.

I don´t have the correct answer. I´m affraid that it depends on the culture. You know that "violeta" means "violet" and "púrpura" means "purple"

It's kind of like with English, we have different words that mean the same thing with different spellings - ax and axe.

They are all different colors but people make the mistake to call the same color different names. It all depends where you are in the world and the culture involved.
